Brown bears + marine life

Bear Aware & Wildlife

You’re in active wildlife habitat. Brown bears have been seen on the beach near the floathouse, and marine animals may be present in the bay.

  • Bear awareness will be reviewed upon arrival. Bear spray is strongly recommended for shore time.
  • Maintain safe distances from all wildlife and give animals space to move freely.
  • Orcas, sea lions, and other marine animals may be nearby. Avoid close approach from docks or kayaks.
  • Wildlife behavior is unpredictable; interaction at close range can be dangerous.

Safety beats schedules

Weather Advisory

Southeast Alaska is a cold-water, maritime environment. Conditions can shift quickly: wind, rain, and fog even when the morning looks friendly.

  • Dress in layers and assume rain. A waterproof shell and warm mid-layer are the default setting.
  • Bring gloves and a warm hat for boat days. “Summer” still has teeth here.
  • Itinerary and timing may change for safety, sea state, and wildlife considerations.
