Skiff Rental Overview
This rental is best suited for protected waters and bay cruising around Sitka. Conditions can change quickly, and the safest plan is the simple one: stay conservative, stay aware.
Who can rent
Eligibility
- Renter must be at least 18 years old.
- Renter is responsible for safe operation during the rental period.
Strongly recommended
Safety & Navigation
- A charged phone in a waterproof case, plus a backup power source.
- A dedicated navigation option (chart/GPS app or handheld GPS).
- Tell someone your plan and return time.
If you don’t already have a nav plan, keep the route simple and stay close to protected water.
Cold water + fast changes
Weather Advisory
- Dress in layers and assume rain. A waterproof shell and warm mid-layer are the default setting.
- Bring gloves and a warm hat for boat days. “Summer” still has teeth here.
- Itinerary and timing may change for safety, sea state, and wildlife considerations.
Southeast Alaska is a cold-water, maritime environment. Conditions can shift quickly: wind, rain, and fog even when the morning looks friendly.
The Sitka starter kit
What to Bring
